3. Installation Phase
The object of this phase is to install the previously transferred software package, and
make it available to the system.
There are no service implications during this phase.
• Check the status of the FLASH:
• Consult the dwlpackage table: mgnt2DwlMScraftPkgTable
• This will display the packages resident in the FLASH:
(mgnt2DwlPackageFileName)
• And which one is currently being extracted in the system
(mgnt2ExtractedPack)
• Enable the new package by setting to two its associated object:
mgnt2SwitchTo
This extracts the new binaries to the flash-ram, overwriting the previous
binaries.
This oper ation takes at least three minutes.
Do not turn off the machine during this time.
Do not Reset the MS430502M chassis during this time.
• Progress indicator:
• The value of: mgnt2PackageExtractionInProgress
Can be consulted to monitor the progress of the procedure. It is “on” during
extraction and returns to “off” on completion of the operation.
After this operation, the SNMP agent is updated, however it is necessary to
reboot in order for the system to start using this new version.
• Reset. See; Resets in Software Management Section.
• After reset the value:
• mgnt2ExtractedPack
Associated with the new package is set to “one” indicating that this package is
in use.
In the event of an incorrect completion of this phase or a problem with the new
package refer to Fall Back 3 for reverse procedure. (Fall Back Procedures)
The FLASH can contain up to four packages at any one time. Only one of these
packages will be actually in use (as indicated by the value:
mgnt2ExtractedPack).In case of a problem with the new package it is advisable
to keep the former package in the FLASH during an upgrade, as a safety
measure.
• Erase of unwanted packages:
• Set to one the object: mgnt2DeletePackageFromFlash
